Nunyara
Little Lovett Bay, Pittwater
Undoubtably one of our most important projects to date, is the renovation of Nunyara house designed by architect Ric Leplastrier.
‘Nunyara’ means a place of healing, which in many ways pays tribute to the original owners & their extensive involvement with the special needs community.
It also links to the magical qualities of the site, which is a beautiful part of the world where Ku-ring-gai National Park meets the Hawkesbury.
Its isolated sandy beaches, native endemic tree covered hillside and clean saltwater make for a stunning tranquil aspect overlooking Lovett bay.
Nestled into a bushland escarpment on the western foreshore of Pittwater the site is accessed by ferry or private boat.
A complete waterfront, in a quintessential offshore community, passionately cherished by locals & Ric himself.
What a place. It is an understatement to call it magical – this can only be understood by living & breathing it.
We consider Ric the godfather of the Pittwater school of architecture. We hold him in highest respect, not only as architect but as a truly amazing human being.
He held space for us throughout university, and molding & mentoring us for many years thereafter in his quiet manner.
We encouraged the new owners of the property to engage with Ric, yet he gave such kind words of trust towards us undertaking the project.
In honour and respect Nunyara was photographed before we any commenced new works.
Nunyara has been untouched for 30+ years, in absolute original condition, dusty, with gum leaves strewn throughout, but with bones as solid as the day it was built.
Given its age & bushland site, the building required maintenance, and renewal for the family to live with comfort & safety for their many precious grandchildren.
We were engaged & honoured to give it a delicate refresh.
We shall be a great fit for this project. Grateful to our colleagues, Sacha & Jaya Param for the recommendation.
