The process was an exercise in restraint and simplicity…in order to achieve true elegance.

This project is predominantly interior design; a substantial interiors project.

The internal spaces were reconfigured & reorganised, with all new interior surfaces, kitchen, multiple bathrooms & new feature staircase, new doors & windows, finishes, fittings, furnishings. The home was thoroughly stripped out for a complete interior make over.

Bathrooms are elegant, with methodical restraint to minimise – even simply to use the same tile but laid in different formats provided the only textural difference required in these rooms. Less is more.

Kitchen & living room joinery designed with timber details, in order to compliment the timber staircase design.

The stair case appears to hover in the space, partly it hangs from the floor above, so whether experienced form upstairs or down the stair is a true sculptural element in the void.

Every item in the home was coordinated from scratch: all materials, colours & textures, from tiles, carpet, curtains, furniture, paintings, bedspreads & cushions, landscaping from plants to pots. Everything was beautifully selected & presented.

The rooms of the existing house were actually very small individual rooms, with trip hazards between rooms – typical of adhoc 2 storey bungalows.

The resulting home is absolutely transformational. We have completely opened up the house! The open living area is now full width of the block. Large glazed sliding doors allowing full operability to access a north facing deck, pool & level lawn. The client’s love entertaining & often large groups of people, so now the house performs both wonderfully & elegantly.

The external ‘built form’ was mostly retained as existing – albeit the entire property received a refresh with all new cladding, roofing, carport, decks, landscaping, & feature timber elements tie the entire project together. Hardwood timber batten screens and features are beautifully detailed and scattered throughout to add warmth, texture & provide a crafted quality throughout.
